  1. Dear Term-Plus User,
  2.  
  3. Forgive the long delay in getting this to you. I have been working
  4. hard on both the program and the manual, and have truly been
  5. unable to keep everyone up to date. I am including information about the
  6. last couple of releases so that those who have fallen a bit behind
  7. will know what to look for in this release, but be sure to print out
  8. the new User Guide. It has been re-written to reflect the current
  9. state of the program and now has a Table of Contents and an Index
  10. to help you to locate information. I am proud of the continuing
  11. evolution of Term-Plus, and certainly plan to keep working on it
  12. as long as there is sufficient interest. There is still much that
  13. could be done to expand the program. The address book function is
  14. now approaching the capabilities of a simple stand-alone
  15. database manager. Do explore it. I think you'll find it can add
  16. quite a bit to your use of Term-Plus. The library of XMODEM-variants
  17. has also been greatly expanded from early versions, and I see no
  18. end in sight. ZMODEM is certainly the next target here.
  19. The AutoPilot function needs some "brains" and is at the top of
  20. the list for the next upgrade. Please let me know if you
  21. have any comments, questions, or problems. I'll do my best to be
  22. responsive to all.

  28. .o - Fixed "Append Scroll Buffer" when scroll buffer contents
  29. .    exceed 32K TextEdit limit when added to Edit Document.

  33. .    and dialog placement have lost their "brain damage".

  86. .     v6.94 has been tested on CompuServe in both directions,
  87. .     and still works for downloading from GEnie.

  90. . o - Added initial support for shared environments. Term-Plus© now
  91. .     creates its own "Settings" file in the System Folder to hold
  92. .     resources that need to be changed in normal use, so that the
  93. .     program no longer modifies itself. Also allows running the program
  94. .     from read-only media.
  95. . o - Added support for 12 pt. font in main terminal window on systems
  96. .     with a large screen display that supports zooming. To get 12 pt,
  97. .     hold down the <OPTION> key while clicking in the main terminal
  98. .     window's Zoom Box. Provides 84x24 on Apple Color Monitor when
  99. .     zoomed out with 12 pt. font selected. Others depend on size of
  100. .     screen. Format displayed in lower right-hand corner of the
  101. .     main terminal window when zoomed out.
  102. . o - Text file editor windows now display the size of the file
  103. .     at the bottom of the window.
  104. . o - Macs with at least the 128K ROMs running System v4.1 and up
  105. .     can use a popup menu in text file editor windows. This menu
  106. .     allows you to change the font, size, and style of the text.
  107. .     To get the menu, hold down the option key while clicking in
  108. .     the text file's window.
  109. . o - Added "Save Scroll Buffer Contents" feature to allow
  110. .     saving entire Scroll Buffer to a text file easily
  111. . o - Finalized support for hardware handshaking, and brought
  112. .     most serial communications code up to Apple specs
  113. . o - Added window zooming to Address Book window
  114. . o - User Guide has been completely updated, and now includes
  115. .     both a Table of Contents and an Index. Note: Future
  116. .     releases of the User Guide will likely be in MS-Word format.
  117. . o - Term-Plus NavEdit v3.x is a total re-write and actually works now.
  118. .     Enhanced to allow opening multiple AutoPilot files simultaneously.
  119. .     Now allows opening non-AutoPilot files, such as the Settings
  120. .     file in the System Folder. Just hold down the Option key when
  121. .     selecting the "Open" item in the File menu.

  123. .  Note: The next version of Term-Plus will incorporate changes to
  124. the AutoPilot file structure. Be sure to retain copies of all of
  125. your AutoPilots and scripts so you can recompile the scripts and
  126. copy Macro string resources from the old AutoPilot files. In fact,
  127. some of you may find you need to edit and recompile your scripts
  128. now due to some small internal changes in v6.94.
  129. .   Future versions will likely drop support for the original 512K with
  130. the old 64K ROMs. v6.94 is quite solid and should suffice for them,
  131. but the design compromises and additional code needed to support
  132. those machines has become too great a burden on further expansion
  133. of the program. Term-Plus will continue to run on 512KE's for some
  134. time, but the writing is on the wall for them, too.
  135.    The file "Term-Plus© NavEdit" is a utility program that allows you
  136. to edit the navigation items for the "Navigate" item in the Special
  137. Menu of Term-Plus which are contained in AutoPilot files. This program
  138. has been upgraded to allow opening more than one AutoPilot at a time
  139. to allow you to easily cut and paste ICONs and other items between
  140. AutoPilot files. While this version (3.0) is a substantial improvement
  141. over previous efforts, it can be destructive. Therefore, you should be
  142. sure to work only with back-up copies of AutoPilot files. NavEdit will
  143. also open the "Term-Plus© Settings" file that Term-Plus now creates
  144. in your System folder. To open this file, hold down the Option key
  145. when selecting the "Open" item from the File menu in NavEdit.
  146.    The two AutoPilot files "CIS ICONs" and "GEnie ICONs" contain the
  147. default navigation items for the two services indicated by the
  148. respective file names. When you want to create an AutoPilot for
  149. use on one of these services, use the "Select AutoPilot From Disk"
  150. item from the Auto menu and select the appropriate AutoPilot file.
  151. All these AutoPilots do is to load their resources into Term-Plus.
  152. They do not execute any commands, but they do change the communications
  153. settings. So, you will need to select the "Communications" item from
  154. the Settings menu and make any changes needed to reflect your modem's
  155. settings and capabilities. At this point, you can write your script
  156. file using the text editor and create a new AutoPilot file using the
  157. "Compile New AutoPilot" item in the Auto menu. Be sure to consult the
  158. User Guide beforehand to get the latest information on AutoPilots.
  159.    The two text files "CIS Term Setup Script" and "GEnie Term Setup Script"
  160. are AutoPilot script files which, once compiled into AutoPilot files,
  161. will automatically set up your account on these services to work best
  162. with Term-Plus. They automate the process outlined in the User Guide.
  163. You must be logged on to the service and be at the "TOP" menu page for
  164. these scripts to work properly. On both CompuServe and GEnie, the
  165. command "TOP" will get you to the proper location to use these AutoPilots.
  166. You only need to run these AutoPilots once. Then you can discard the
  167. AutoPilot files, but you should keep the script files in case you
  168. ever need to repeat this process.
